6.2 / Why Otolo

Why he is building it.

Stephen's doctoral research at Georgia Tech studied disease states in wound healing. As a medical device product manager, hardware builder and technical consultant, he has worked on both sides of body data: the sensor that produces a reading and the people who need to trust it.

He built Otolo through more than a year of pivots, prototype iterations and hundreds of customer interviews. He is also a triathlete, climber and skier who wants to see his own measurements, not just a score. Otolo is the tool he wanted at every step: raw readings he can inspect, in files he owns, with the AI he chooses.

6.3 / How we work

Show the mechanism.

Otolo earns trust by explaining how things work, not by asking for it.

  1. Observe

Start from what the device actually measures, and say what it cannot.

  2. Test in the open

Publish accuracy data, methods and firmware versions. Show uncertainty as part of the rigor.

  3. Give the method away

Open source, open formats, documented drivers. The user builds; we equip.

6.4 / Hiring
